A Little Irish Pub on Waiheke Island
Whilst Waiheke is home to some of the country’s best Wineries and most luxurious villas, private Irish Pubs are a first. The “Thomas Meeke” pub, a sleek and sophisticated Black and Gold Irish Pub smaller than the size of your bedroom is set to be the first of many Little Irish Pubs to start popping up over the Island.
The Little Pub was named after the father of Putiki Estate’s owner Thomas Meeke, who came to New Zealand from Ireland back in 1922. It sits at the end of the tennis court, ready for a cold beer after a game, just far enough away from the house to see the guest bedroom out of the corner of your eye whilst also feeling like you’ve been transported to Ireland.
Inside the pub are all the features of the real thing. A Guinness tap on the bar, a fiddle on the wall, a last drinks bell, historic images of Thomas and the family and all sorts of old Irish nic nacs.
The Journey
The pub travelled the length of the country, embarking on two ferry crossings before arriving at its new home at Putiki Estate. Watch some of it’s journey below
