Maxwell’s Ale & Whisky
Introducing Maxwell's Ale & Whisky - a Little Pub that came alive with a choice to "take bold steps towards dreams"
For this Little Pub we decided to let it's owners Dave & Lara tell the story in their own words. Here it is;
The Genesis of Maxwell's My Little Pub.
“The journey to owning our My Little Pub began two years ago during a Christmas lunch with a friend who shared our passion for classic cars. After the meal, he invited us to his backyard, where we were introduced to what I can only describe as a converted boat shed - now his very own pub. A skilled construction professional, he had built it as a lockdown project, and it was nothing short of impressive. We couldn't help but think, "That's so cool. Wouldn't it be amazing to have our own?"
A year later, we stumbled upon My Little Pub. It ignited a new wave of excitement, and we began dreaming. However, reality set in as we considered the costs. We spent months weighing our options, trying to find ways to make it work, but we were still on the fence. That is until we visited another My Little Pub in Cambridge. Seeing one in person made it clear - we were all in.
Around this time, we picked up a book titled "Die with Zero" by Bill Perkins. I'd highly recommend it if anyone's ever wondered if spending on experiences rather than passing on an inheritance is a fulfilling way to live. It helped us realise that life's too short not to take bold steps toward our dreams.
The process with the My Little Pub Team was fantastic. We talked through options, finishes, and designs, and what we ended up with exceeded all expectations. The delivery team faced some technical challenges with a long crane-in, but they handled it like pros. Since it arrived, we've had two groups come through, and both were amazed by the quality and finish of the Little Pub.
As for the name "Maxwell", it holds special meaning for me. It's part of my name and runs deep in my family's history - my son, nephew, cousins, and even one of our dogs share it. It connects us to our heritage, and for me, naming the pub "Maxwell" was a meaningful way to honour that legacy. In fact, we've even planned a trip to dive deeper into the family's roots - with a stop at a couple of distilleries, of course!” - Written by Little Publicans Dave & Lara
Like all new Little Pub Club Members, it really was an honor to bring Dave & Lara's dream alive. Their Little Scottish Pub boasts a stunning backdrop amidst the bush and is destined to be the centerpiece of many unforgettable gatherings—and perhaps some intense sports viewing, as we left Dave happily engrossed in the cricket all day after the delivery!
Maxwell's Ale & Whisky started as a silver model, 4.3m Little Irish Pub and then gathered features from both the gold and platinum models to land on their final custom model. Their colour choice is striking - the vibrant red interior reminds me of Ireland's oldest pub, The Brazen Head, which I was lucky enough to visit in Dublin earlier this year. Maxwell's Ale & Whisky is a true classic! Cheers to Dave & Lara!
